PREP ROUNDUP: Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer wins Stillman Valley Tournament

For the second straight season, the Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team won the Stillman Valley Tournament on Saturday.

In the championship, H-BR (4-0-1) beat Orion, 2-1, in penalty kicks. Connor Nelson had the winning kick for the Royals.

The Royals defeated Genoa-Kingston, 2-1, in overtime in their first match of the day, with Nelson coming up with the golden goal in overtime. William Crozier had the lone goal for G-K.

H-BR's Jack Bullard had a goal and an assist on the day, and Eric Phillips finished with two assists, while Jacob Morsch added a goal.

In their other match, the Cogs lost to Stillman Valley, 6-0. G-K is 2-3 on the season.

Jacobs tournament: At Algonquin, Kaneland went 1-1-1 during the season-opening tournament. The Knights lost to Harvard, 1-0, and blanked Crystal Lake Central, 1-0,  before playing Jacobs to a scoreless tie.

Iganacio Toscano scored a second-half goal in the Crystal Lake Central match on assists from Arsim Azemi and Anthony Parillo. Halves were shortened to 25 minutes due to Friday's weather postponements.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Kaneland fifth at Wheaton North Tournament: Kaneland lost to Glenbard West, 25-19, 14-25, 15-25 in the Gold Division of the Wheaton North Tournament, but finished with a win in the fifth-place match. The Knights defeated St. Viator, 25-18, 25-20.

Kaneland also defeated Stagg, 25-21, 25-19.

Kaneland's Jenny Lubic was named to the all-tournament team.

Earlier last week to advance to the Gold Division, the Knights defeated Buffalo Grove in three games, but lost to Glenbard South.
