PREP ROUNDUP: G-K soccer tops Byron

William Crozier and Uriel Ortega both had second-half goals for the Genoa-Kingston boys soccer team as the Cogs shut out Byron, 2-0, in the Stillman Valley Tournament.

Juan Da Sliva had an assist for G-K (2-1), and goalkeeper Andrew Caldwell earned the shutout.

“We had a hard time adjusting to the smaller field in the first half. In the second half we calmed down and played under control,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “We were able to get some better scoring opportunities and finish a couple of shots for goals. Defensively we played stronger and limited any scoring chances. Not the most stylish win, but it was a win.”

Royals shut out R-B: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Roanoke-Benson, 1-0, at the Stillman Valley Tournament in a game that was shortened because of weather.

Jack Warner scored the lone goal of the game, with an assist from Jack Bullard. H-BR is now 2-0-1.

Jason Bohannon earned the shutout in goal.

T’wolves top Royals: Peyton Gatz shot a 40 for Indian Creek as the Timberwolves defeated Hinckley-Big Rock, 178-198. Dallas Boehne had a 42 for Indian Creek.

Hunter Seierstad led the Royals with a 44, while Daniel Small added a 48.

Royals top Mooseheart: Hinckley-Big Rock improved to 2-0 with a 25-21, 25-12 win over Mooseheart. Karrigan Cowan had seven kills and five blocks for the Royals, while Lexi Gonzalez finished with four aces and five digs. Jacqueline Madden finished with five kills.

Spartans get win: Sycamore defeated Plano, 25-20, 25-16.
