PREP ROUNDUP: G-K soccer tops Byron

Published: Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

William Crozier and Uriel Ortega both had second-half goals for the Genoa-Kingston boys soccer team as the Cogs shut out Byron, 2-0, in the Stillman Valley Tournament.

Juan Da Sliva had an assist for G-K (2-1), and goalkeeper Andrew Caldwell earned the shutout.

“We had a hard time adjusting to the smaller field in the first half. In the second half we calmed down and played under control,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “We were able to get some better scoring opportunities and finish a couple of shots for goals. Defensively we played stronger and limited any scoring chances. Not the most stylish win, but it was a win.”

Royals shut out R-B: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Roanoke-Benson, 1-0, at the Stillman Valley Tournament in a game that was shortened because of weather.

Jack Warner scored the lone goal of the game, with an assist from Jack Bullard. H-BR is now 2-0-1.

Jason Bohannon earned the shutout in goal.
