FUMC marks youth Sunday

DeKalb’s First United Methodist Church celebrated Sunday with worship celebration led by youth and guest artists Kishwaukee Brass Quintet.

FUMC Adult leader Nancy Melms and middle school and high school youth led the traditional worship service in song, prayer and testimony. The spirited worship was praised by the congregation.

DeKalb’s Kishwaukee Brass Quintet provided prelude, special, offertory and postlude music that ranged from the classical Coprario’s Fantasia to the traditional American tune Amazing Grace in the Canadian Brass style.

Performers included Mike Duffy and Jerry Zar on trumpet, Mark Robinson on French horn, John D. Smith on trombone and Ben Helton on tuba.

The ensemble recently received notice via JMIH of a Target Foundation DeKalb PreSchool Arts Performance Grant to present at three local preschools: Growing Place, Children’s Learning Center and Little Lambs Preschool.

Just Make It Happen Inc. is seeking matching donors to expand the outreach of music education for preschool children in the community.
