Prep Roundup: DeKalb golf wins 1st NI Big 12 East dual

The DeKalb boys golf team topped Sycamore, 159-168, in the Barbs’ first Northern Illinois Big 12 East dual meet of the season. 

Connor Hoyle shot 38 and Jacob Cook recorded a 39 at Sycamore Golf Course to lead the Barbs. Austin Freeman contributed a 40 while both Ryan Schultz and Robby Bishop shot 42.

“Our top few guys played solid,” DeKalb coach John Cordes said. “I think we were a little sluggish coming off yesterday’s match, but we’re happy with the win.”

Sycamore was led by co-medalist Ryan Aurand’s 38. Keegan White had a 41, Michael Hermes shot 43 and Cam Godinsky came in at 46. 

Sandwich wins triangular: Sandwich defeated Coal City and Peotone in a triangular meet at Cinder Ridge on Tuesday.

Ryan Pfaff (43), Ian Burgin (48), Colton Isham (46) and Nick Duffy (50) all socred for the Indians, whose 187 team total was five shots better than Coal City and 17 strokes better than Peotone.

GIRLS GOLF

H-BR edges Somonauk: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Somonauk, 214-220, in a dual meet at Indian Oaks in Shabbona. It was the first win over Somonuak in four years for the Royals.

The Royals were led by junior Taylor Prellberg’s 49 while senior Caitlyn Fecht recorded a 53. Seniors McRaye Scheller and Kim Weissinger each shot 56 to round out the scoring. 

Somonuak was led by junior Courtney Merkel’s 54. 

The Royals travel to Edgebrook for a dual meet with Sandwich today.
