Kaneland, Sycamore both ranked in AP preseason football poll

Knights, Spartans meet in Week 8 of regular season

Kaneland and Sycamore, the only area teams to make the playoffs last season, are both ranked in the Associated Press Class 5A preseason poll.

Kaneland is ranked No. 4 while Sycamore is ranked No. 5. Defending state champion Montini is the unanimous No. 1 team, garnering all 16 first-place votes.

The Knights come off a 10-1 season in which they posted their third consecutive undefeated regular season, but lost to Lincoln-Way West in the second round of the playoffs.

Sycamore went 7-4 and fell to Montini, 24-22, in the second round of the playoffs.

Both teams return a majority of their starters from last season, including a couple Division-1 prospects. The two teams will meet in Week 8 of the regular season when Kaneland travels to Sycamore.
