Vigil in Genoa to recall victims of drug overdose

GENOA – An Overdose Awareness and Prevention Day vigil is scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 211 Main St. in Genoa.

The event is intended to remember those lost to drug overdoses, to honor survivors and loved ones left behind, and to raise awareness of the prevalence and danger of drug abuse.

Noted speaker Dr. Andrea Grubb Barthwell is scheduled to speak. Grubb Barthwell is the founder and director of Two Dreams Outer Banks Treatment Center and worked in the George W. Bush White House in the Office of National Drug Control Policy. She was also a founding member of the Chicago Area AIDS Task Force and is a past president of the American Society for Addiction Medicine.

The event is planned to be family friendly. There will also be music from local Christian contemporary band TOW.
