A group of 35 women build a pinwheel-like structure Saturday over Ottawa, Ill., setting a new Illinois record for the largest women's formation skydive.

OTTAWA – A state record has been set in women's skydiving in central Illinois.

Yin Yu is a United States Parachute Association certified judge. Yu says 35 women flew to build a pinwheel-like structure Saturday at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, setting a new Illinois record for the largest women's formation skydive.

Participants ranged in age from 18 to 70. Ottawa is 70 miles south of Chicago.

The last Illinois women's formation record, set in 1983, comprised 32 women. The national record stands at 181 women.

The same group of women hope to attempt to set a record Sunday for the largest women's sequential formation, in which they will build two consecutive yet different patterns during one skydive. No state record exists for the largest women's sequential formation.
