Letter: Don’t choke down Obamacare

To the Editor:

You go to a very nice restaurant because you’ve heard it has received the highest rating regarding it’s food and service. You are very excited once you get there and are anxious to see what savory delights await you.

The waiter comes up to you and asks if you’re ready to order. You’re not quite sure what to order since you’ve never been there before and so you ask his opinion. His response? “I don’t know what is best, as I have never eaten here.”

So, hoping to receive some feedback, you ask another waiter whose response is exactly the same. Finally, you decide to ask someone of more importance, the chef, what he would recommend. His response? “I don’t eat my own creations.”

Finding all of this rather odd, you ask numerous other restaurant staff where they eat and come to find out that none of the staff eat there and, oddly enough, none of their friends or vendors of the restaurant eat there either.

It appears the only customers to this establishment are those that either read the food was good, based off of a review whose author didn’t eat there. Knowing that the individuals who work there won’t eat there and that the chef himself/herself refuse to eat there, would you still be willing to order a meal and pay for it?

Oh, and by the way, if you decide to now leave the restaurant without ordering? You still have to pay a cover charge to help cover their expenses.

So, my question to you is this: If that scenario bothers you, are you also upset that the Affordable Care Act (nicknamed Obamacare) is doing the exact same thing? At least with the restaurant, it was your choice, but with the ACA, you have no choice, and those that designed it do not have to participate and neither do many of their associated groups.

The ACA, while giving the benefit of the doubt to the designers, is not a dish that I wish to choke down. Even it’s designers know of its numerous flaws and do not want to choke it down either. They’ve even pushed the business mandate back until after an election cycle.

Do you still want to “visit the restaurant”? I don’t.
