A Taste of Northern canceled, other NIU activities continue

DeKALB – Rain canceled A Taste of Northern today, but Northern Illinois University leaders are continuing student welcome activities through the weekend on and near campus.

Students with A Taste of Northern tickets can redeem them at their residence halls tonight, NIU spokesman Paul Palian said.

On Friday, NIU's marching band and cheerleader will lead a band run at 9:30 a.m., and President Dougas Baker will lead an academic convocation for first-year students at 11 a.m. The "We Are Huskies" tailgate will begin at noon on Huskie Stadium's west lawn.

On Saturday, a day of service will kick off at the Holmes Student Lounge at 9 a.m., while a Greek Life BBQ will start at noon and Greek Row tours will start at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Baker will host a welcome back picnic with free food, live music and outdoor activities from 5 to 7 p.m.on the north lawn of the Art Building, 330 Gilbert Drive.
