Thrift sale aids Tanzanian development

Tanzania Development Support will sponsor a fundraising garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24 at 201 Thornbrook Road in DeKalb.

This event promises to have a tremendous selection of household items suitable for furnishing an apartment or supplementing an established household. In addition to home furnishings, there will be an assortment of clothing, toys, sporting goods, books, small appliances, electronics and vintage items.

Donations of salable items are welcome, particularly furniture. Items can be dropped off before the sale dates by calling 815-901-0393 to schedule a time. Arrangements can also be made for donations to be picked up.

Tanzania Development Support is a nonprofit 501c3 organization supported by many volunteers from the DeKalb area. Members are actively working to help children and their families in rural Tanzania lift themselves out of poverty through education, training and community development. TDS’s current project is the construction of a library and resource center to serve over 2000 girls and boys and their families in the community of Nyegina in Tanzania. It will be built in three phases, each phase costing an estimated $150,000.

Financial donations are also accepted. Checks can be made payable to Tanzania Development Support and mailed to 201 Thornbrook Road, DeKalb, IL, 60115. Online donations can be made at www.tdsnfp.org. All donations will be acknowledged with an IRS receipt. Donors are asked to indicate on the check if they choose to remain anonymous.
