Hinckley church hosts Germanfest fundraiser

Published: Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

The Men’s Club of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hinckley will host its first Germanfest fundraiser Aug. 24.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., rain or shine, in Pioneer Park in Hinckley. Admission is free, but donations are welcome, and those who attend are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Hinckley Area Food Pantry.

The event will feature live German music by Die Perlen, an antique tractor display, craft vendors, kids’ games and a menu of bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, roast pork, baked beans, apple strudel, pretzels, hot dogs, chips, pop, water, wine and three kinds of beer.

The Men’s Club typically has one fundraiser a year, a roast beef dinner. It keeps enough seed money for the next year’s fundraiser and gives away the rest. Most of the funds are used for capital projects at the church, but the club has also funded youth group events, scholarships, a puppet ministry, livestock for needy families and Bibles and other items for foreign missionaries.
