DeKalb Festival Chorus seeks new voices

Published: Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

The DeKalb Festival Chorus, with new conductor Seth Houston, is looking for people who love to sing.

Rehearsals for the coming concert season begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 in Room 171 of the Northern Illinois University Music Building, on Lucinda Avenue in DeKalb. Cookies will be served before the rehearsal, and singers are encouraged to come early to see old friends, meet new people and to register.

New singers should have an informal audition. Houston will conduct auditions from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26, and after the rehearsal until 10 p.m.

The Festival Chorus has planned two concerts this year. The fall concert, “This Shining Night,” takes a journey from the darkness of the fading year to the promise of renewal. Centering on Ola Gjielo’s dynamic “Dark Night of the Soul,” with piano and string quartet, the concert also features music by Brahms, Copland and Lauridsen. The spring concert will feature Vaughan Williams’ masterpiece “Dona Nobis Pacem,” with texts by Walt Whitman and others.

For more information or to schedule an audition, contact the conductor at seth@sethhouston.com or 303-815-0648.
