1st shark fin citation given to Chicago restaurant

CHICAGO – State officials say they've issued Illinois' first citation under a new law banning shark fins.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said Thursday that they cited Minghin Cuisine for $120 on Tuesday in Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood. The IDNR says the restaurant had an authentic shark fin on display. Conservation police say they confiscated the fin and it was authenticated by staff at Chicago's Field Museum.

Restaurant manager Lee Joyce says Friday that the eatery does not serve shark fin soup. Joyce says "everything is gone" and that the fin was a model for display.

The law banning the sale, trade or distribution of shark fin went into effect Jan. 1.
