KINGSTON – An 84-year-old Poplar Grove man was listed in serious condition Wednesday after crashing his Subaru Outback into a utility pole on Genoa Road between Cherry Valley and Melms roads.
The driver, George Houda, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford with unknown injuries.
Genoa Road was closed for about 90 minutes while police and fire personnel and officials from ComEd worked.
Authorities determined that Houda suffered an unknown medical problem, lost consciousness and struck the pole, according to a news release.
Lt. Andy Sullivan of the DeKalb County Sherrif’s Office said a call was received at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday with a report of an erratic driver.
At 9:10 a.m., another call was received that the driver had crashed into a pole.
Members of the Genoa-Kingston Fire Protection District and Sycamore Fire Department responded to the crash.
