To the Editor: I was deeply offended by the Daily Chronicle’s political cartoon on Tuesday, July 23, mocking the pope and the Catholic Church.
Yes, there is a spiritual indulgence for this year’s World Youth Day in Brazil. It involves conversion and repentance for sins (confession), worship (Mass and the reception of Holy Communion), and special prayers. It is a decision to accept Jesus and His love into our lives. It is strictly spiritual.
There is no explicit or implicit monetary value involved at all.
I doubt that this newspaper would mock any other religion, especially non-Christian ones. Why the double standard?
