The Oak Club of Genoa to hit auction block

GENOA – The Oak Club of Genoa has been put up for auction.

The 18-hole, 157-acre golf course will be auctioned off on Aug. 28 by Auctions by ATG, which operates out of Chicago, and the minimum bid has been set at $595,000.

General Manager Tom Shepard declined to comment on the reason behind the sale or the status of the course's ownership, but said that the timing is right.

"I'm ready to retire, and we just think it's time to get out of the business," he said.

All of the course's buildings and grounds, including its 180-seat banquet facility, are included in the listing, according to Auctions by ATG's website. Its furniture and equipment will be sold separately.

The course boasts five sets of tee boxes that play from 5,077 to 7,121 yards.

Tax documents from the DeKalb County Assessor's Office show that taxes on the property have been paid in full and on time so far in 2013, and the current owner is listed as National Bank & Trust Co.

Calls to NB&T were not immediately returned Friday.

The Oak Club of Genoa has been in operation since 1971 and underwent a renovation in 2006, according to its website. It last played host to a major event in 2009, when a U.S. Public Links Championship qualifier took place there.

The auction, which will be open to the public, will take place at the Auctions by ATG office in downtown Chicago.
