Soldiers returned from World War II to an economy that exploded and brought widespread prosperity. They went to college, married, and started having babies, creating the largest generation of children ever born in the United States.

The generation born during these post-war years, roughtly 1946 to 1964, are the baby boomers. And they have lived through some of the biggest social changes in American history.

The Daily Chronicle presents a three-day series on baby boomers, who are turning 65 at a rate of 10,000 per day. As they age, we can expect to see new pressures on our health care and social institutes, changing dynamics within families and a shift in the economy to handle the retiring baby boomers.

The articles will focus on family, health and employment.
