Letter: No report issued on graduated tax

Published: Wednesday, July 17, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

In a recent newsletter to constituents, state Rep. Bob Pritchard reports that “Republicans Take Stand Against Graduated Income Tax” and then states “the non-partisan legislative Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (COGFA) concludes a graduated income tax would raise taxes for most middle-class taxpayers – nearly 85 percent of all people who work in Illinois.”

I called the commission and spoke to Executive Director Dan Long and Revenue Manager Jim Muschinske. Both deny such a report was ever issued and expressed surprise that a good representative like Bob Pritchard would say something like that. I am surprised, too. Where did Rep. Pritchard get his information, or disinformation?
