ZION – Hundreds of mourners, including firefighters from Illinois and Wisconsin, paid their final respects to a 23-year-old elite firefighter who died last month in Arizona.

Anthony Rose was one of 19 firefighters who were killed during an out-of-control wildfire north of Phoenix on June 30. His funeral was held Thursday evening in the northern Illinois community of Zion, a day after his cremated remains were flown back to the region.

Rose's family lives in the Lake County community of Beach Park.

Thursday's solemn service included a single-file procession by uniformed firefighters and an honor guard. His family also received a flag and a Medal of Life from the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association.
