Air conditioning problem closes DeKalb Clinic

Convenient care clinic, Lehan's location to reopen Wednesday

DeKALB – The DeKalb Clinic should reopen today after fixing an issue with the air conditioning in its building.

Administrator Alice Freier said the clinic learned of the problem Monday afternoon, and it decided to close to prevent its servers from being damaged.

"The issue is fixed," Freier said Tuesday afternoon. "We're walking out of the clinic now. ... We had people working on it when we found out."

Patients and visitors to the convenient care clinic were greeted by handwritten signs informing them of the closure, saying that they would reopen today.

Sycamore resident Ryan Friel said he came to the clinic for a regular check-up, as he attends college in Florida. Doug and Cathy Hartmann, of Maple Park, were turned away as well.

"We made an appointment ... at 1:30 p.m., and we got our appointment yesterday," said Cathy Hartmann. "They never indicated that anything was not going to be happening."

Freier said all of the patients who had appointments scheduled for Tuesday will be called to reschedule.

Lehan Drugs, which operates a pharmacy inside the clinic at 1850 Gateway Drive, was also closed, said Tim Lehan, co-owner and pharmacist.

"No cooling in the computer room means no computers, [which] means you can't open for business," Lehan said.

Like Freier, Lehan also expressed confidence that the clinic will be open today.

"I think they're being proactive [Tuesday], and so they closed the clinic," Lehan said. "It should be ready to go [today."
