Auxiliary awards scholarships

Nicholas Sablich, a 2013 graduate of DeKalb High School, has been awarded the Virginia Larsen Nursing Scholarship for 2013. Sablich will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to study nursing and will receive this year’s scholarship award of $3,300.

Several years ago, Virginia Larsen, a charter member of the auxiliary, established a nursing scholarship endowment fund through the DeKalb County Community Foundation. The Larsen Scholarship is selected from all of the applicants for the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary Healthcare Scholarship. The Scholarship Committee selects the outstanding nursing major from this group. The first scholarship was awarded in 2006.

In addition to the Virginia Larsen Scholarship, the auxiliary awarded 22 scholarships for 2013-2014 totaling $20,000. The other recipients include Alexandra Bantz, Jessica Castro, Kimberly Kay Feczko, Azucena Fraire and Mayumi Garcia. Also receiving scholarships are Eran Gwillim, Erica Huerta, Leigha Johnson, Kathryn Lewis, Jessica Lovejoy and Rachel McBride. In addition Molly Meier, Jennifer Milroy, Angela Moore, Rachel Petersen, Anna Pruteanu, Ariel Russell, Laina Kay Scheri, Kristin Strupp, Jessica Sullivan and Laura Zantout also will receive an auxiliary scholarship.

The auxiliary wishes all of the winners a successful future in their healthcare careers.
