Toews expected to play for Hawks

Jonathan Toews is set to play Monday in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final as the Blackhawks look to clinch their second Stanley Cup in the past four seasons.

Toews, who was injured Saturday during Game 5 on a high, hard hit by Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk, said he felt fine after taking part in the Hawks’ morning skate Monday at TD Garden. Toews occupied his typical spot on the Hawks’ top line, which included Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell on the wings.

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said Toews looked sharp during the morning skate.

“It’s good to know that he’s ready to go,” Quenneville said.

Meanwhile, Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron did not participate in his team’s morning skate and remains a question mark for Game 6. Bergeron was injured during the second period Saturday and needed to be hospitalized before re-joining the team.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said he was hopeful that Bergeron could play Monday. Bergeron is the Bruins’ top option on faceoffs and has tallied 15 points (9 G, 6 A) in 21 playoff games.

“Patrice will dress for warm-up tonight, and I’m feeling confident that he’ll play,” Julien said.

The Hawks gathered Sunday night to hear several of their Cup-winning veterans speak about their experiences before winning a championship in 2010. Toews and Patrick Kane were among those who spoke about the importance of staying focused heading into Game 6.

“I think it’s very beneficial,” Quenneville said. “We look back, back in 2010, we were in the same situation.  Johnny Madden had been there and [Marian] Hossa had been there and it was nice listening to those guys that had been in that situation.

“I think it prepares the guys with the right frame of mind.”

Next up: Afternoon naps, unless you are Andrew Shaw and do not take naps.

The Hawks will return to TD Garden several hours before the opening faceoff, which is set for shortly after 7 p.m. CT.
