Mulson: Genoa chamber's royal events of summer

Published: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Congratulations to the 2013 Genoa Days King Cal Thompson and Queen Meredith Fitzsimmons.

On June 12, the Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce held its 54th annual Genoa Days King and Queen Scholarship contest. The final judging was held at the Genoa Veterans Home this year.

Chamber photographer Jodi Richards of JK Richards Photography was on hand to take more than 100 photos of the event. With the help of sponsors the chamber was able to grow the Genoa Days King and Queen Contest to offer a larger scholarship this year. Thank you to KishHealth System, Genoa Liquors and all of our sponsors that helped the king and queen each receive $1,000 toward continuing education and $100 to each member of the royal court.

The chamber invites the public to its largest event of the year – the Olympic-themed 2013 Golf Classic, scheduled for July 19 at the beautiful Oak Club of Genoa. This event is open to the public. The golf package costs $99 and includes lunch, 18 holes of golf with cart, social hour, dinner, six raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes, golf ball drop and an Olympic awards ceremony with music.

Please join us for this wonderful day of fun in the sun. What a great way to get acquainted with your local chamber while networking with executives, business associates and friends. There will be an opportunity to win a car for a hole in one, sponsored by Alan Browne Chevrolet. There will be sponsors on each hole with games and activities to showcase their businesses. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including longest drive, shortest drive and beat the pro. There also will be large raffle giveaways. Thank you to our corporate sponsor KishHealth System. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

In addition to the annual golf outing, look for Great Genoa Duck Race tickets on sale now. First prize is $500, second prize is $250, third prize is $100, and last place finisher wins $50. The Great Genoa Duck Race is scheduled for Sept. 7 at Carroll Memorial Park in Genoa. Attendees can watch their plastic ducks float down the river. The event also will include face painting, jump houses, food vendors, music and games. Purchase tickets at the chamber or these participating locations: Embroidery Sew Into It, Speciality Gifts, Everything Floral, Hills Tap, Karlsbad Tavern, Genoa Veteran’s Home Corp., Tobinson’s Ace Hardware (duck headquarters), Heartland Bank & Trust Co., Resource Bank and NB&T Bank
