Nore named Sycamore girls volleyball coach

Published: Friday, June 21, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Eric Nore didn’t have to look too far to get feedback on the Sycamore volleyball program and its vacant head coaching position.

Nore coached Ratasha Garbes, a 2013 Sycamore graduate and the 2012 Daily Chronicle Volleyball Player of the Year, at Sports Performance Volleyball a couple of years earlier.

After applying for the position early in the year, Sycamore announced in a news release Thursday that Nore was named the new head girls volleyball coach at Sycamore. He replaces Debbie Klock, who retired after last season.

“To have a high school team with different dynamics than club, I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Nore said. “I love working with teams and getting them to be more than they thought they could.”

Nore, 44, was an assistant coach at Waubonsie Valley the past two years under head coach Kristen Stuart. At Waubonsie Valley, Nore helped the Warriors to consecutive regional title appearances in Class 4A.

He also has extensive club volleyball coaching experience at Sport Performance. This will be his first head coaching job at the high school varsity level.

“There were some opportunities to potentially work in the district in a couple different capacities,” Nore said. “I’m just trying to put my foot in the educational door. That’s what I’m looking to do.”

Sycamore earned a share of the Northern Illinois Big 12 East title last year and lost to Kaneland in the regional finals. Klock retired as the winningest coach in Sycamore history and helped the Spartans advance to the state tournament in 2007.

Nore said he hasn’t met with the team yet, but rescheduled its summer camps for July.

“We are extremely pleased to add Eric Nore to our coaching staff,” Sycamore athletic director Chauncey Carrick said in a news release. “His philosophy and experience is exactly what we need to continue our rich volleyball tradition.”
