Published: Saturday, June 15, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

DeKalb County residents affected by recent flooding may be eligible for food assistance under the Disaster Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Disaster SNAP benefits will be provided to families based on total income and assets available to a household during the disaster. Most benefits will be available within three days of applying.

Residents who may qualify must have had damage to a home or business, paid disaster-related expenses not reimbursed or had loss or reduction of income during the period of April 16 through May 15.

Those receiving regular SNAP benefits who were affected by the disaster may also apply.

DeKalb County residents can apply at Family Community Resource Center, 1629 Afton Road in Sycamore.

Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday of next week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will open at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday to accommodate working families. Call 815-895-8667 for information.

Applicants must bring proof of their identity, their residence in a disaster area and any nonreimbursed disaster-related expenses from the disaster period.
