Baptist church sets Day Camp

Published: Friday, June 7, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

First Baptist Church of DeKalb will hold its 37th annual day camp at Walker’s Farm. Day Camp will be July 15 through 19, with the theme, Kingdom Chronicles.

Children entering grades 2 through 7 in the fall can learn about the armor of God from Ephesians chapter six and how they can be spiritually ready every day.

Cost is $5 per camper. Camp starts at 9 a.m. with a general assembly, then breaks into activity groups by grade. Activities include swimming, crafts, Bible lesson, games, missionary story and snack, and the day ends at 2:30 p.m. Kids bring their own lunch, except on Wednesday, when everyone enjoys roasting their own hot dog and eating corn on the cob.

“The kids come for the outdoor activities, games, swimming, and find a message that stretches their spirits as well as their bodies,” camp director Bethany Macarus said in a news release.

Kids and adults love the singing and stories of Day Camp. Ruth Peterson, camp pastor, will teach about the Burmese kingdom and the first missionary there, Adoniram Judson. The offering will be given to Friends of Burma for its continued efforts to care for the people of Myanmar, formerly called Burma.

For directions, registration information, or a reasonable accommodation, call Macarus at 815-756-2114 or email bmacarus@yahoo.com.
