Sycamore baseball advances to sectional final

Spartans score five runs in first inning to take early lead.

Sycamore baseball bolted out to a five-run lead in the first inning and cruised to a 10-0 win in six innings over Rockford East in the Class 3A Sycamore Sectional semifinals.

The Spartans scored four runs in their first at-bats before Rockford East made a pitching change. They tacked on an additional run to end the first and scored one more in the fourth and fifth. Sycamore added three more in the fifth before ending the game with the 10-run rule in the sixth inning.

The Spartans advance to play St. Francis in the sectional final on Saturday at Sycamore Park at 11 a.m.

Sycamore has never won a sectional title and this marks the program's first appearance in a sectional final since 2004 when the IHSA had two classes and eight teams made the state tournament.
