IVVC students take honors at SkillsUSA

The Illinois Association of SkillsUSA held its annual Leadership and Skills Conference in Springfield last month. There were more than 1,000 students who participated and were supported by more than 300 business and industry, organized labor, and educational professionals who supervised and judged the competitions and provided technical support.

Students from across the state participated in 17 Leadership Development Contests, 56 Technical, Skilled and Service Occupations Contests, six Health Contests, eight Action Skills Contests for Special Needs students and six Occupationally Related Contests.

The following students represented IVVC at this state conference.

First Place Gold Medals: Medical Terminology – Alyssa Allen, Paw Paw; Photography – Melissa Tassone, Sandwich; Quiz Bowl-I – Juan Castellanos, Newark, Tim Fletcher, Newark, Jack Lutkus, Sandwich, Miriena Rodriguez, Plano, KC Stager, Sandwich; Interior Room Design – Morgan Haick, Sandwich; Telecommunications Cabling – Troy Schindlbeck, Sandwich; Creative Photography – Melissa Tassone, Sandwich.

Third Place Bronze Medals: Interior Room Design – Savannah Phillips, Indian Creek; Job Skills Demo – Virginia Lomax, Sandwich; Promotional Bulletin Board – Morgan Haick, Sandwich, Miriena Rodriguez, Plano; Quiz Bowl-II – Alyssa Allen, Paw Paw; Erika Carlson, Hinckley-Big Rock, Monica Dominguez, Newark, Virginia Lomax, Sandwich, Mitch Prentice, Paw Paw; Technical Computer Applications – Mitch Prentice, Paw Paw; Technical Spelling – Tim Fletcher, Newark; Telecommunications Cabling – Harley Lynn, Sandwich.
