WNIJ reporter and morning show producer Jenna Dooley was named “Newsfinder of the Year” by Illinois Associated Press.
The award winner is chosen by Illinois AP staff and recognizes one reporter for outstanding cooperation with the newas service. AP depends on its members to share news of statewide interest.
Dooley joined WNIJ’s news department in January 2012, but she was no stranger to local public radio listeners. While she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Northern Illinois University, she reported and hosted weekend news for WNIJ. Dooley went on to earn her Master’s in Public Affairs Reporting at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The stories she produced at her next job, as host and reporter at NPR-affiliate WUIS in Springfield, were often broadcast by her alma mater, WNIJ.
The “Newsfinder of the Year” award was announced April 20 at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association convention in Urbana. This was the first such award for Dooley and a first in recent memory for WNIJ.
