DeKalb girls soccer won its first playoff game with a 3-0 victory over Elgin in the Class 3A DeKalb Regional quarterfinals.
Kayla Perkins scored two goals and Morgan Beaty added one for the Barbs.
The Barbs advance to play St. Charles North in the regional semifinals on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. St. Charles North is considered to be one of the top 10 teams in the state and was ranked as the No. 1 seed in the Hoffman Estates Sectional.
Ottawa downs DeKalb: The Barbs lost to Ottawa, 8-5, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover game.
Cogs fall: Genoa-Kingston lost to Marengo, 8-0, in the completion of a suspended game from last week.
Mike Kuhn went 1 for 3 with a double while Bobby Treadwell was 2 for 3. Tommy Hansen threw 3 1/3 shutout innings and struck out four in relief.
Timberwolves lose: Indian Creek lost a nonconference game to Woodstock, 9-1, on the road.
Kaneland edges Sterling: The Knights won a NI Big 12 crossover contest against Sterling, 5-4.
With the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning, Kaneland pitcher Elissa Eckert induced a 1-2-3 double play to end the game.
Indian Creek swept: The Timberwolves lost both games of a doubleheader against St. Edward's. Indian Creek fell, 15-4, in the first game and lost, 21-4, in the second game.
FRIDAY'S LATE RESULTS
Hooker, Dubrick win two titles: Sycamore's Dion Hooker won the 100 in 10.89 seconds and took home the 200 in 22.75 at the Northern Illinois Big 12 East meet. He was also second in the 400.
DeKalb senior Marc Dubrick won the 1,600 at 4:23.72 and also took first in the 3,200 at 9:19.82. Teammate Misha Ryzhov was fourth while Sycamore's Mark Stice was fifth.
DeKalb's 4x100 relay of David Long, Dre Brown, Eriq Torrey and Drew Paszotta won in 43.41. The same foursome won the 4x200 relay in 1:31.52.
The Barbs' Tyler Peterson won 110 hurdles in 15.47. Teammate Lee Parish was third. Parrish also took fourth in the 300 hurdles.
DeKalb's Antonio Tate won the long jump with a mark of 20-06.50. Teammate Michael Tayo was fourth.
Brown was fifth in 200 at 23.56 while Torrey was sixth in 23.80. Sycamore senior Dave Emmert finished second in 800 at 1:55.68.
Sycamore's 4x400 relay took second to Kaneland. The Spartans' team of Emmert, Hooker, Kevin Maillefer and Tanner Yohe finished in 3:30.19.
Sycamore's Evan Short was third in the shot put while DeKalb's Jonathan Bell was second in discus.
Kaneland takes conference title: At Dixon, Kaneland comfortably won the Northern Illinois Big 12 title, beating out second-place DeKalb.
The Knights' conference champions included Dylan Kuipers (pole vault), Nathaniel Kucera (400) and Kyle Carter (800), Nate Dyer (shot put) and Tanner Andrews (triple jump). Kaneland's 4x800 relay also captured a conference crown.
Schilling to state: Freshman Emily Schilling was a two-event qualifier for the Class 1A state meet. Schilling won the 1,600 in 5:27.61 and took second in the 800 at 2:25.29.
Freshman Alexis Van Whye finished second in the 300 hurdles at 51.33 to qualify for state and sophomore Chantel Kyler won the high jump at 5-2.
Hinckley-Big Rock junior Kristen Clark was third in the 800, but qualified for the state meet with a time of 2:25.55
Hawks fall: Hiawatha fell to Serena, 4-0, on the road. Abby Turner pitched four innings, gave up three runs and had eight strikeouts. Tatiana Spung was 1 for 2 for the Hawks, who begin postseason play this week.
Serena downs Hiawatha: Serena defeated Hiawatha, 6-2, in a Little Ten matchup.
