Hawks' Saad finalist for Calder

Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad was named as a finalist for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie, the league announced Monday.

Saad, 20, quickly emerged as a talented scorer alongside star-caliber teammates such as Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. In 46 regular-season games, Saad notched 27 points (10 G, 17 A), which tied for fourth on the team.

Two other finalists also are up for the Calder Trophy: Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher and Florida Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau. Gallagher notched 28 points (15 G, 13 A) in 44 regular-season games for the Canadiens, while Huberdeau scored 31 points (14 G, 17 A) in 48 games for the Panthers.

Eight players in Hawks franchise history have won the Calder Trophy, including Patrick Kane during his rookie season in 2007-08. Other winners from the Hawks include Ed Belfour (1990-91) and Steve Larmer (1982-83).

The Calder Trophy winner will be announced during the Stanley Cup Final.
