Esmond man drives into river, charged with DUI

MAYFIELD – An Esmond man was charged with driving under the influence and texting while driving after his vehicle landed in the Kishwaukee River early Sunday morning.

Brent L. Creason, 43, of the 26000 block of Esmond Road, was driving a 2010 Dodge pickup southeast along Old State Road near Route 64 in the Mayfield Township around 12:50 a.m. Sunday. As he approached the intersection, his vehicle went off the road and became lodged in the south branch of the Kishwaukee River, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Sycamore EMS took Creason to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The news release said Creason was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, texting while driving, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving under the influence.
