Pharmacy to open in summer in Genoa

GENOA – Parag Maniar sees a void of pharmaceutical options in Genoa, and he hopes to fix that in July.

That’s when he is planning on opening his new pharmacy, simply titled Genoa Pharmacy. Maniar is the owner of Hampshire Pharmacy in Hampshire.

“We have been very well-received in the town of Hampshire, and we like the small town settings,” Maniar said. “We like the people in small towns. They are very friendly, they have been very nice to us.”

City Administrator Joe Misurelli said residents have had to drive to Sycamore, Hampshire or Belvidere to fill their prescriptions ever since Eggleston’s Pharmacy closed in March.

“We have no pharmacy, so that is certainly a big empty void in our commercial services,” Misurelli said.

The location for Genoa Pharmacy is still up in the air. An advertisement for the pharmacy that was mailed to residents listed an address of 438 W. Main St. However, Maniar said construction costs for that spot have proved more expensive than expected, and he is considering other locations.

The pharmacy will offer free prescription delivery, along with any included over-the-counter drugs, Maniar said.

“Our pharmacy is a family-based pharmacy ... we think our seniors should be taken care of,” he added.

In addition, the pharmacy will also offer diabetic supplies, home medical equipment and free vitamins for children.

“The idea behind the free vitamins for kids, we wanted to get started to realize the value of health and vitamins in their life,” Maniar said. “Teach them to take better care of themselves.”

Maniar added it’s company policy to invest in the community by sponsoring local sports teams and donating to a local food pantry.
