Lunch to raise awareness of heart disease in women

DeKalb women and the men who love them will join the fight against heart disease in women at the American Heart Association’s annual Go Red for Women luncheon on May 17 at Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center.

The Go Red for Women Luncheon, chaired this year by Tami Armstrong of NB&T, is the signature fundraising event of the campaign, which raises awareness of women’s No. 1 killer, heart disease.

DeKalb’s Go Red for Women Luncheon runs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will include an educational breakout session, health screenings and a silent auction.

This year the theme is sisterhood and inspiration. It will focus on three areas to support the fight against heart disease in women: heightening awareness of the issue, creating a passionate call-to-action and generating funds to support education and research.

The members of the 2013 Executive Leadership Team are Bridget Carlson (Castle Bank), Sharon Emanuelson (KishHealth System), Alice Freier (DeKalb Clinic), Sherry Urich (Monsonto), Tamara Newquist (NB&T), Carloyn Leist (KishHealth System), Diane Breunlin (Sycamore Chamber of Commerce), Kathy Meyer (Resource Bank), LaVerne Gyant (Northern Illinois University), Matt Duffy (DeKalb Chamber of Commerce), Karen Pletsch (Shaw Media) and Beth Bushing (KishHealth System).

For table sponsorship, or to purchase tickets, call Valerie Tippitt, Go Red for Women director, at 815-262-1428.
