HARVARD – Students were evacuated from Harvard Junior High School this morning after a round of ammunition was found at the school, according to police.
Authorities were called to the school at around 6:20 a.m. for a report of a suspicious incident, according to the Harvard Police Department. Staff at Harvard School District 50 told police custodial staff had found a .22-caliber bullet in the boys’ locker room.
Harvard police evacuated the students and staff, and searched the entire school, according to a news release. No other suspicious items were found, and no suspects have been identified.
Classes have since resumed, and the investigation is ongoing.
This was the third time in less than four months that ammunition has been found at District 50 schools.
A Harvard Junior High School student was charged with disorderly conduct in mid-December after he brought three .30-caliber shell casings on a bus to school. Students at the five district schools were kept in their classrooms during that incident.
Two days prior, Crosby Elementary School officials found a .22-caliber shell casing on the cafeteria floor. That caused administrators to keep students in their classrooms for more than an hour while police searched the building.
None of the incidents are considered to be related, police said.
