Letter: Johnson seeks your vote for DeKalb Twp. supervisor

To the Editor:

As a reader of the the Daily Chronicle ,you are aware that Tuesday is election day for our local races. I am writing to introduce myself and to ask for your vote for DeKalb Township Supervisor. I was appointed DeKalb Township Supervisor on Dec. 8, 2010. As township supervisor I serve as the CEO and treasurer of DeKalb Township. My duties include administering general assistance, receiving and investing all township funds, managing the township’s historic cemeteries and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the township.

Since my appointment, I have been actively searching for ways the township can be more efficient while expanding high quality, cost-effective human services to the residents of DeKalb Township. In my short tenure, I have established a Committee on Youth to help combat juvenile delinquency, formed a partnership for cellphone recycling to benefit overseas soldiers, and started restoring our historic cemeteries to make them a respectable final resting place for our loved ones.

I have worked to make DeKalb Township more transparent by posting all of our financial and meeting information on the township website. I have also been a good financial steward having been under budget the previous two years and carrying zero debt. This allowed me to propose and pass a freeze in our property tax levy.

I am active in the community, serving as a DeKalb Chamber Ambassador, Sycamore Rotarian, member of the Northern Illinois University College of Law Alumni Council and a board member for Adventure Works of DeKalb County, just to name a few.

My previous local government experience includes serving on the DeKalb County Board and as a trustee for DeKalb Township. Before my current position, I was working for the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office, where I was assigned to a juvenile courtroom. It was there that I gained a passion for helping at risk youth so they do not end up in our court system.

I received both my J.D. and B.A. from NIU. I am a licensed attorney in the state of Illinois and my wife, Jennifer, and I reside in DeKalb with our 21-month-old son, Benjamin. You can learn more about the accomplishments we have been able to achieve on our website, wwwJohnsonForDeKalb.com. I would appreciate your vote Tuesday.

Eric Johnson

Supervisor, DeKalb Township
