PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb softball sweeps doubleheader

The DeKalb softball team swept a doubleheader against Belvidere North, winning 16-10 and 6-0.

Hannah Walter, Lindsey Costliow and Jessica Townsend each had three hits for the Barbs (3-0) in the first game, while Townsend and Haley Tadd each had three RBIs.

Katie Kowalski earned the win.

In the second game, Sabrina Killeen and Walter each finished with two hits, and Morgan Newport earned her second victory of the year in the circle, finishing with eight strikeouts.

Spartans split: St. Edward beat Sycamore, 2-1, in Game 1 of a doubleheader, but the Spartans responded with a 7-5 win in Game 2.

Brit Huber and Jordyn Schultz each had two hits in Game 2, while Becca Schroeder, Jordyn Shultz and Paige Bjork had two RBIs.

Taylor Zak was the winning pitcher, giving up three earned runs while improving to 2-0. Sycamore is now 2-1.


Royals split DH: Hinckley-Big Rock split a doubleheader against Aurora Christian in a doubleheader Saturday, losing the first game, 6-0, and winning 10-9 in Game 2.

Austin Scott had the lone hit for Hinckley-Big Rock in Game 1. In Game 2, Adam Joyner had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning for H-BR.

Jake Ryan was the winning pitcher for the Royals, while Mitch Ruh went 4 for 4 with a double and five RBIs.

DeKalb wins first game: DeKalb split a doubleheader against Rockford East. The Barbs won the first game, 5-2, as Shaun Johnson pitched six innings and struck out six to get the win. Danny Petras was 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and a run.

The Barbs lost the second game, 11-6. Jared Johnson was 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Spartans split DH: Sycamore defeated Harlem, 4-3. Harlem defeated Sycamore, 8-3, in the first game of the doubleheader.

Kaneland drops doubleheader: Kaneland lost, 4-3 in eight innings and 10-2, at O’Fallon.


DeKalb finishes sixth: The DeKalb badminton team finished sixth of seven teams at the Glenbard East Ram 7 Invite. The Barbs finished with 10 points.
