Egyptian Theatre to host Survivor, John Waite

DeKALB – Two music legends will unite on a DeKalb stage for one night only this summer.

The American rock band, Survivor, is set to team up with British rocker, John Waite, to bring a unique concert performance at DeKalb’s Egyptian Theatre at 7:30 p.m. May 17.

Best known for their hit song “Eye of the Tiger” from “Rocky III,” Survivor is returning to their Chicago area roots, where they formed the band in 1977. Alongside them will be British rock artist John Waite, former lead singer and bassist of the popular 70s group, the Babys.

Waite and Survivor have never performed on the same stage together, which is partially why the theater is excited to host them, said Heather Carr, membership and marketing director at the Egyptian Theatre.

“We just thought it would be an awesome combination,” she said.

The Egyptian Theatre, at 135 N. Second St. in downtown DeKalb, is working with ProSound Productions to bring the rockers to the venue, which seats 1,400 guests.

Carr said this concert has the ability to appeal to a lot of people since the performers are well known.

Carr said not only could the concert benefit the community by bringing in people from all over the county, but these high-profile musicians can help the Egyptian Theatre continue to make a name for itself.

“A national touring act just raises the visibility of the theater and what we can do,” she said.

Tickets for the concert go on sale to the general public Thursday at 11 a.m. Friends of the Egyptian have an exclusive opportunity to buy tickets beginning Tuesday at 11 a.m. until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. To become a Friend of the Egyptian, sign up at www.egyptiantheatre.org.

Thirty VIP tickets, including a meet and greet with Survivor, are available for $59.50.

Premium reserved seats are $49.50 and regular reserved seats are $39.50.

Tickets can be ordered online at www.egyptiantheatre.org, by phone at 815-758-1225, or at the box office at 135 N. Second St. in Dekalb. Box office hours are Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
