Letter: Shopping carts for handicapped are not toys

Published: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

I see more and more young people using the shopping carts for the handicapped in stores who do not need to use them.

I have seen them banging into each other and racing them. I have seen these people get up and walk out to their cars carrying their groceries that are not parked in the handicap spot. I was entering a store and two teenage girls were going in circles with the carts and you couldn’t even get past them to get into the store. To top things off, their mother was sitting on the bench watching them, not saying a word.

Maybe it’s time to have a handicapped sticker (like for cars) required for the carts because then these people could be fined and it wouldn’t be so funny next time. Maybe they could even use the same sticker as they use for the car. That way at least the people in the store could put a stop to this.

I know people who depend on these carts and when the carts are not available they cannot do their shopping.
