To the Editor:

This mayoral election, we DeKalb residents have a wonderful candidate in Jennifer Groce to choose as our next mayor.

Many significant changes are happening right now within our great community, such as the addition of a new police chief, the recruitment and selection of a new city manager, Northern Illinois University president and NIU police chief.

DeKalb has some wonderful change coming its way, and the role of mayor will be more important than ever in forming relationships with these new decision makers. Our new mayor needs to be able to work cooperatively with all the stakeholders of our city to keep the momentum of excellence we have been achieving over recent years alive and well.

I have known Jennifer Groce for many years, and I am energized anytime I interact with her. I trust her. I respect her. And, quite frankly, I have never met anyone who can get as much done, and motivate those around her to rally to a common cause, than I have in Jennifer Groce.

She cares about those around her. She cares about the community she is in. She understands responsibility. Whether in her leadership role to drive change in our downtown (the heart of our community) or whether leading a nonprofit, I have seen firsthand how she takes ownership and commits to a task, how she seeks guidance from others and how she makes the final decision as required when in a leadership role.

We have options this election for the office of mayor, but I see only one choice on Election Day and that is why I am voting for Jennifer Groce for the mayor of DeKalb. I encourage you to do the same.
