CHICAGO – A judge has ordered a Chicago man held in lieu of $1.5 million bail in connection with the August shooting death of an aspiring chef and the wounding of another man.

Authorities say Arcadio Davila was questioned but not charged after the murder of 24-year-old Richard Ramon Pike as he sat in a parked car. Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa Samp said Davila was arrested this week and charged with murder and attempted murder.

Samp did not explain the delay in charging Davila, who was picked out of a lineup by the wounded victim.

Samp said Pike’s friend saw Davila as the shooting began and recognized him as someone he went to school with.

Authorities did not reveal a motive for the shooting.

Assistant public defender Marijane Placek is representing Davila.
