Firefighters: Check smoke detectors

Published: Saturday, March 9, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Local firefighters are encouraging residents to check the batteries and smoke detectors when they change their clocks this weekend.

Daylight savings time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, and firefighters suggest residents replace the batteries in their smoke detectors.

They also recommend checking the date on the new batteries to ensure they have not expired.

Smoke detectors that are 10 years or older should be replaced.
