Geography of SIU board subject of legislation

CARBONDALE – An Illinois lawmaker is pushing a measure that would ensure a stricter geographic makeup of Southern Illinois University’s board of trustees.

WSIU Radio reported that Sen. Bill Haine of Alton has introduced legislation that would require three trustees to be graduates of SIU in Carbondale, and three to be from the university’s Edwardsville campus.

That move came days after the Illinois Senate overwhelmingly rejected Gov. Pat Quinn’s appointments of replacements for three SIU board members whose terms recently expired.
