A 44-year-old DeKalb woman remained hospitalized in fair condition Wednesday afternoon after her Honda Accord collided with a box truck on slippery roads Tuesday.

The box truck, driven by a 31-year-old Kingston man, was headed south on Webster Road near Route 38 about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the truck began to spin, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release. The woman, who was driving west on Route 38, couldn’t avoid the accident because of the slippery roads and struck the front of the box truck, police said.

The box truck’s driver was treated at and released from Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where the Honda’s driver remained Wednesday afternoon.

The crash was among several weather-related incidents the sheriff’s office handled Tuesday and Wednesday.

A First Student school bus driver, Ronald Wesche, 62, of DeKalb, was cited for following too closely after a crash in the 21100 block of Malta Road about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. The bus was carrying 24 DeKalb School District 428 students from the Kishwaukee Education Consortium; no one was injured.

The bus was driving south behind a 2002 Chevrolet Impala that slowed because of icy roads when the bus rear-ended it, police said.

About 30 minutes later, a teenage girl lost control of her Buick Century driving east on Route 30 near University Road near Shabbona, slid down an embankment and hit a parked camper, police said.

About 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, a snowplow owned by the Illinois Department of Transportation struck a snow bank and veered left, sideswiping a 2007 Toyota Corolla that was southbound on Route 23 near Preserve Road outside Waterman, police said.

About 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, a 1995 Honda Civic lost control in the snow-covered roadway on East Sandwich Road south of Shabbona Grove Road near Hinckley. The car struck the guardrail and landed in the creek, but the driver was not injured, police said.
