AURORA – St. Francis finished the game with a 14-1 scoring run to defeat Kaneland, 43-32, at the Class 3A IMSA Regional on Wednesday night.

After the Knights took a 31-29 lead on a 3-pointer from senior Matt Limbrunner with 4:18 left in the contest, the Spartans ran away from Kaneland to earn the victory.

Kaneland led, 4-0, at the start of the game after two quick baskets from senior Dan Miller and later extended its lead to 7-2 on a free throw from Tyler Carlson, but St. Francis fought back and put together a 6-0 scoring run to grab an 8-7 lead after one quarter.

Both teams then traded baskets in the first three minutes of the second quarter. It wasn’t until Andrew Kimball’s basket with 43 seconds left in the half that the Spartans were able to grab some momentum, taking a 17-14 lead at halftime.

Miller finished with 10 points to lead the Knights (16-12) while Limbrunner added 9.

Tim Zettinger led St. Francis with a game-high 21 points.
