Man shot during alleged home invasion now charged

BELLEVILLE – A man shot by a southwestern Illinois woman after police say he broke in to her home is charged with home invasion.

Prosecutors in Madison County charged 33-year-old Joshua Jewell on Wednesday. He's been hospitalized in St. Louis since being shot during the alleged confrontation early last Sunday in Highland.

Debi Keeney said she shot the man at her sister's apartment, believing the intruder would kill her 47-year-old sister, whom he had in a choke hold while demanding money.
