St. Catherine Mardi Gras celebrates whole community

On the day before Lent, members of St. Catherine of Genoa were more concerned about what they could give than what they would be giving up.

The church welcomed residents in the Avancer-Genesis program Tuesday to the church for a Mardi Gras celebration that included food, music, crafts and other activities. The Avancer-Genesis program serves special needs adults in a assisted-living community setting with houses located in Genoa, Sycamore, DeKalb, Cortland and Davis Junction.

Linda Dolder, a member of the Respect Life Committee for St. Catherine, said the Mardi Gras party was a way to help the Avancer residents participate in a social setting and integrate into the larger community.
