ROCHELLE – Sycamore wrestler Jake Davis suffered through school on Friday with a fever that just wouldn't go away. After staying home on Thursday, the senior knew he had to force himself to get through the day with Saturday's Class 2A Rochelle Sectional looming.

The chest congestion from his illness lingered throughout the meet, but it was impossible to tell that Davis still felt sick. In the 195-pound final, Davis picked up IVC's Jordan Ladd, ranked No. 6 on illinoismatmen.com, and threw him to the ground, pinning his opponent with one second left in the first period.

“I was surprised that I pinned him,” Davis said. “I felt like that match was going to take at least three periods.”
