State Wrestling Brackets Set

Sycamore's Austin Culton and Jake Davis earn No. 1 seeds

The brackets for the state individual wrestling championships next week have been set.

Sycamore's Austin Culton and Jake Davis both earned No. 1 seeds. Culton, a perfect 40-0 on the year, will face Jacksonville's Nick Hamilton in the first round at 152 lbs while Davis will wrestle Troy Triad's Hunter Schmidt at 195 lbs. Sycamore's Kyle Akins, No. 2 seed at 113 lbs, faces Mahomet Seymour's Kolton Taylor in the first round. 

Kaneland also had three state qualifiers. Esai Ponce (132 lbs) faces Antioch's Mike Gussarson in the first round. Dan Goress (145) faces Springfield's Horatio Austinwhile Zach Theis (285) matches up against Chicago Crane's Lamar Johnson.

DeKalb's Doug Johnson, the Class 3A No. 2 seed at 132 lbs, will face Naperville Central's Ben Williamson in the first round.
